North Island, Mainly fine about the east coast, showers or rain elsewhere.Northwesterlies rising to gale in the south. South Island, Rain with heavy falls west of the Main Divide, partly cloudy with scattered rain developing elsewhere. Snow lowering to 500 metres in the south. Northwesterlies, gale in exposed places.

Monday

North Island, Cloud increasing in the east, showers or rain elsewhere. Strong or gale southwesterlies developing. South Island, Showers in the west and south, mainly fine elsewhere. Snow lowering to 200 metres in the south.

Tuesday

North Island, Showers developing throughout, then clearing later west of Taupo and south of Auckland. Strong or gale southwesterlies. South Island, Showers, with snow to 400 metres at first, clearing for most later but remaining about Southland. Southwesterlies, gale near the east and south coasts.

Chatham Islands

Showers, turning to rain for a time on Monday and again on Tuesday. Westerlies, strong at times.

Northland to Manawatu, including Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Often cloudy. A few showers about the west coast, spreading further inland from late morning, but remaining mostly fine in Bay of Plenty. Areas of frosts inland this morning.

Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa

Fine, but areas of frosts inland this morning.

Wellington and Horowhenua Kapiti Coast

Mainly fine. One or two showers north of Otaki from afternoon.

Buller, Westland and Fiordland

Cloudy. Occasional showers becoming frequent tonight.

Marlborough, Nelson, Canterbury and Otago

Fine with frosts. Areas of low cloud persisting about some inland valleys and basins.

Southland

Fine morning with frosts, then cloudy periods developing. Often cloudy about Stewart Island with a few showers.

Chatham Islands

Mostly cloudy with a few light showers.
