Saturday

North Island, periods of rain in the north and west, possibly heavy and thundery at times. Scattered falls spreading further east. South Island, thundery rain in the north, easing during the morning. Rain in the east with snow down to 800 metres. A few showers in the far south, but mainly fine for Fiordland.

Sunday

North Island, showers, but mainly fine for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne until showers spread there in the evening. South Island, mostly cloudy with occasional showers.

Monday

North Island, fine breaks, and occasional showers mainly for western areas. South Island, cloudy with occasional showers in the south, and also the east coast. Mostly fine elsewhere.

Chatham Islands

Rain developing Saturday, heavy and possibly thundery later in the day, with strong or gale northeasterlies changing northwest.Showers on Sunday and Monday, with northerlies turning gale westerly on Sunday, then changing strong southwest Monday.

Northland to Waikato, also Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo

Fine spells and the odd shower.

Waitomo to Kapiti, including Taumarunui and Taihape

Cloudy periods and isolated showers. Patchy rain developing this evening, and becoming heavier about Taranaki and Kapiti tonight.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Fine with high cloud.

Wellington, Wairarapa, Nelson and Marlborough

Fine at first. Cloud increasing this afternoon and rain developing this evening, with heavy falls in Nelson and Marlborough.

Canterbury

Mostly fine, but rain spreading south this evening and snow lowering to 700 metres tonight.

Buller and northern Westland

Occasional showers, turning to rain this evening with heavy falls.

Southern Westland, Fiordland, also North and Central Otago

Fine spells. Any remaining showers about southern Westland clearing this morning.

Dunedin, Clutha and Southland

Cloudy periods. A few showers, mainly near the south coast.

Chatham Islands

Showers, clearing this afternoon.
