North Island, fine in the north and east. In the west, isolated showers then rain at night. Severe gale northwesterly in Wellington and Wairarapa. South Island, rain with heavy falls in the west and north, scattered rain elsewhere. Snow to 500 metres in the south overnight. Severe gale northwesterly in exposed places.

Sunday

North Island, rain, possibly heavy, easing to showers afternoon, clearing in the east later. South Island, rain in the west easing. Showers in the south, with snow to 500 metres. Fine elsewhere, but showers in the east from evening.

Monday

North Island, showers for most, but mainly fine in Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. South Island, showers with snow to 500 metres in the south and east. Fine elsewhere, a few showers in the north.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy with strong northerlies developing on Saturday. Rain on Sunday, with northerlies rising to gale for a time. Showers on Monday.

Northland, Auckland and Coromandel

Mostly fine, with isolated showers clearing this morning.

Waikato to Kapiti, including the central high country

Fine and cloudy periods, and a few showers. Some areas of fog at first this morning.

Bay of Plenty, also Gisborne to Wairarapa

Mainly fine, with areas of morning frost or fog.

Wellington, also Marlborough and Nelson

Generally fine, but the odd shower about northern Wellington, as well as western Nelson and the Marlborough Sounds.

Showers developing this morning, and turning to rain south of the glaciers by evening with some heavy falls tonight.

Canterbury, Otago and Southland

Mainly fine with high cloud, and a few spots of rain about Southland and Clutha this evening.
