North Island: A few showers, turning to rain in the west and south. Staying dry in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay. Gale northwest in Wellington and Wairarapa. South Island: Rain in the west and south at first, heavy and thundery at times, spreading elsewhere for a time.

Wednesday

North Island: Brief showers in the east. Elsewhere, rain or showers, easing. Gale northwest in Wellington and Wairarapa. South Island: Rain in the south and west, heavy at times. Mainly fine elsewhere. Gale or severe gale cold westerlies in the far south.

Thursday

North Island: A few showers in the west. Dry about Wellington and in the east. South Island: Showers in the west and far south easing. Fine elsewhere. Gale westerlies in the far south easing.

Friday

North Island: Isolated showers in the west from Northland to Manawatu clearing, fine elsewhere. South Island: Scattered showers in the west and far south becoming confined to Fiordland. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Chatham Islands

A few showers on Tuesday with strengthening northerlies. A period of rain on Wednesday, then showers clearing for a time on Thursday and winds changing westerly.

Northland, Auckland, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty

Cloudy periods, with a few showers developing this afternoon, some possibly heavy with thunderstorms, clearing this evening but returning for a time tomorrow morning.

Gisborne to Wairarapa, also Wellington

Scattered afternoon and evening rain today. Fine tomorrow, but a few showers about the Tararua District and northern Wellington.

Waikato to Kapiti Coast, including the central high country

Periods of rain from afternoon, with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms, especially in the west, easing to a few showers tomorrow morning.

Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury

Rain and thunderstorms about the ranges, and scattered falls elsewhere clearing tomorrow morning, then a few afternoon and evening showers.

Buller to Fiordland, also Otago and Southland

Periods of rain or showers, sometimes heavy, with squally thunderstorms and hail.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy with occasional drizzle, becoming fine tomorrow.

Lake Rotorua

Today:
Northwest 10 knots developing by afternoon, rising to 15 knots in the afternoon. Changing westerly 15 knots in the evening. Waves less than half a metre. Cloud increasing. Rain with poor visibility developing by evening.
Tomorrow:
Westerly rising to 20 knots for a time in the morning, then easing to 10 knots in the evening. Waves rising to half a metre for a time. Cloudy periods and the odd morning shower with fair visibility.
Monday:
Northwest rising to 15 knots in the morning. Occasional showers.
Tuesday:
Becoming westerly 10 knots early, dying out at night. Early rain, then mainly fine.
