Chatham Islands Cloudy periods, a few showers, and southwesterlies on Friday, then mainly fine with light winds on Saturday. Rain and gale northerlies developing on Sunday.

WARNINGS FOR HEAVY RAIN AND SEVERE GALES ABOUT THE SOUTH ISLAND AND LOWER NORTH ISLAND

Northland to Taumarunui and Taupo, including Bay of Plenty, also Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Cloudy periods tonight. A period of rain around the middle of tomorrow, then clearing.

Taranaki and Taihape to Wellington and Wairarapa, also Nelson and Marlborough

Rain this evening and overnight, with heavy falls, clearing tomorrow, but showers return towards evening. Northwest gales, severe in Wairarapa, Wellington and Marlborough, easing tomorrow morning.

Buller, Westland and Fiordland

Very heavy rain with possible thunderstorms, easing to showers tomorrow morning, then clearing south of Hokitika from afternoon. Severe westerly gales about Fiordland early tomorrow.

Canterbury

Occasional rain overnight. Showers tomorrow afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms in the north. Severe northwest gales, easing tomorrow morning.

Otago and Southland

Rain easing to showers tomorrow afternoon. Severe southwest gales tomorrow morning.

Chatham Islands
