Monday

Mainly fine in the east, but a few showers in the far south at first. Showers in the west, gradually clearing. Snow down to 500 metres in the far south.

Tuesday

North Island, a period of rain, with some heavy falls in the west, then a few showers in the west and dry in the east. South Island, a period of scattered rain for the far north. Mainly fine elsewhere, but a few showers then late rain for Fiordland, and late drizzle for Westland.

Wednesday

North Island, occasional showers in the west, and mainly fine in the east. South Island, periods of rain in the west, with heavy falls possible, and a few spots of rain in the east.

Chatham Islands

Showers and strong or gale southwesterlies on Monday. Showers and winds both easing on Tuesday, then a period of rain on Wednesday, and winds turning northwesterly for a time.

WARNINGS ARE IN FORCE FOR SEVERE GALES AND HEAVY RAIN IN MANY AREAS.

Northland to Waikato, also Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo

Rain spreading east this morning, heavy for a time, followed by showers. Severe gale northwesterlies, slowly easing.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Brief rain this morning, then mainly fine with the odd shower. Northwesterlies, severe gale in exposed places.

Waitomo to Wellington and Wairarapa, including Taumarunui and Taihape

Rain with heavy falls turning to showers early this morning, some heavy. West or northwest gales, severe at times.

Nelson and Marlborough

Occasional rain or showers. Northwesterlies, severe gale in exposed places.

Buller, Westland and Fiordland

Periods of rain, heavy at times with squally thunderstorms.

Canterbury

Rain at times about the Alps and high country. Mainly fine about the Plains, but scattered showers early and late. Northwesterly gales inland, possibly severe.

Southland and Otago

Rain becoming widespread this morning, and snow lowering to 400 metres.

Chatham Islands

Rain easing this afternoon. Northwesterlies rising to severe gale.

Lake Rotorua

Today:
Northerly 15 knots, rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots overnight.Waves rising to 1 metre overnight. Fair visibility in a few showers.
Tomorrow:
Northerly 25 knots gusting 40 knots, turning northwest 20 knots early morning, then rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots late afternoon. Waves about 1 metre morning and night. Poor visibility in morning rain, then a few showers.
Sunday:
Westerly easing 20 knots afternoon, then 10 knots evening. Mainly fine, chance shower.
Monday:
Becoming northerly 15 knots morning, changing westerly 15 knots later. Period of rain, then a few showers.
