North Island, cloud increasing, with a few late showers in the north. South Island, cloud increasing, with rain developing in the west, and scattered late rain elsewhere.

Sunday

Rain for most places, possibly heavy, then mainly fine for the eastern North Island and Nelson, and a few showers elsewhere.

Chatham Islands Cloudy periods, a few showers, and southwesterlies on Friday, then mainly fine with light winds on Saturday. Rain and gale northerlies developing on Sunday.

Mainly fine today. Scattered rain tomorrow, clearing from afternoon.

Waitomo to Wellington, also Nelson and Marlborough

Periods of rain from this afternoon, clearing tomorrow morning. A few showers developing tomorrow evening. Severe northwest gales in Wellington, Wairarapa and Marlborough, easing tomorrow morning.

Buller, Westland, Fiordland

Heavy rain with possible squally thunderstorms, turning to showers tomorrow morning, then clearing south of Hokitika in the afternoon. Southwest gales becoming severe in Fiordland for a time tomorrow morning.

Canterbury
