North Island, rain for most, possibly heavy at first about the Bay of Plenty, gradually clearing from the west by evening. South Island, rain in the west, easing for a time. Becoming fine in the east in the morning.

Saturday

North Island, Fine spells for most, but cloud increasing and isolated showers developing about Northland later. South Island, rain in the west gradually easing, with a few showers developing in Southland. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Sunday

North Island, Periods of rain spreading from the west and north of Taupo, easing to a few showers from the west. Further south, becoming cloudy with isolated coastal showers in the south. South Island, Scattered showers in the north clearing. Elsewhere, cloudy periods with isolated showers.

Chatham Islands

A few showers turn to rain late on Friday with strengthening northerlies. Rain eases to isolated showers on Saturday with winds tending southwesterly.

Northland and Auckland

Cloudy periods, with a few showers about Northland and North Auckland, then a band of rain spreading south this afternoon and evening, with heavy falls possible.

Waikato to Taranaki, including Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Mainly fine. Isolated showers developing in Coromandel and Bay of Plenty this morning, followed by widespread rain late evening.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Fine spells and isolated coastal showers in Gisborne. Scattered rain developing everywhere overnight.

Whanganui to Wellington, also Marlborough to Southland

Mostly fine. Cloud increasing this afternoon, with scattered rain developing at night.

Nelson, Buller, Westland and Fiordland

Fine, apart from isolated showers in Fiordland and Westland. However, widespread rain developing this afternoon and evening.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods, chance drizzle.
