North Island, long fine spells, and a few showers for most regions, especially during the afternoon and evening. South Island, a few showers in the west, mainly fine in the east apart from isolated afternoon showers inland in the north.

Saturday

North Island, mainly fine in the north and east, cloud increasing and patchy drizzle elsewhere. South Island, showers in the west and far south turning to rain, heavy in the south. Elsewhere, fine with increasing high cloud. Gale northwesterlies in exposed places.

Sunday

North Island, becoming cloudy everywhere. Rain developing in the southwest later. South Island, Rain or heavy rain in the west, easing to showers. A period of rain for the east. Gale northwesterlies easing.

Chatham Islands

Showers gradually easing on Friday, then clearing on Saturday. Cloudy periods on Sunday. Southwesterlies, dying out on Friday. Strengthening northerlies from Saturday.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Fine spells and isolated showers.

Remainder of the North Island

Long fine spells and a few showers.

Nelson, Marlborough, Westland and northern Fiordland

Mainly fine. A few showers possible inland.

Buller

Scattered showers, becoming confined to inland areas tomorrow morning.

Canterbury and Otago, excluding Clutha

Mainly fine. Chance of a shower for Banks Peninsula and Dunedin.

Clutha, Southland and southern Fiordland

Occasional showers, becoming confined to the coast by tomorrow evening.
