North Island, scattered showers for Northland, otherwise fine from Taranaki to Bay of Plenty and northwards, showers elsewhere with snow lifting to 500 metres. South Island, becoming fine in most places, but a few showers remain about the east coast and Banks Peninsula, frosty inland.

Saturday

North Island, fine or becoming fine in most places, with morning frosts, but still a few showers in Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. South Island, fine or becoming fine, with morning frosts, severe in sheltered inland places, a few showers about southern Fiordland.

Sunday

North Island, mainly fine. South Island, mostly fine with morning frosts, severe in sheltered inland places, becoming cloudy in the west, and a few showers about Fiordland.

Chatham Islands

Sleety showers and strong cold southerlies on Friday. Showers and southerlies easing on Saturday, then fine spells increasing on Sunday with southerlies dying away.

Northland to Taumarunui

Showers clearing south of Northland this afternoon, but returning in the west again tomorrow.

Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and Taupo

Showers, with snow above 600 metres clearing this afternoon.
