North Island, Showers, but fine at first about the east coast. South Island, Rain or showers east of the Divide, with snow to 500 metres in the south, gradually easing. Fine in the west.

Wednesday

North Island, A few showers, clearing about Bay of Plenty and the east coast. South Island, Mainly fine at first. Rain developing later in the west.

Thursday

North Island, Showers spreading everywhere, then clearing about Bay of Plenty and the east coast later. South Island, Partly cloudy in the east, with a brief period of rain. In the west, rain easing to showers.

Friday

A few showers in the west of the country, mainly fine in the east.

Chatham Islands

A few showers with light winds on Tuesday. Rain and strong or gale southerlies developing Wednesday. Rain continuing through Thursday as winds turn southwest.

Northland to Whanganui, also Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Fine spells and a few showers. The showers more frequent and heavier from Waitomo southwards.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Fine.

Manawatu to Wellington, also Wairarapa, Marlborough and Nelson

A few showers, turning to rain this afternoon and evening from the south.

Buller and Westland

Frequent showers north of Hokitika, falling as snow to 700 metres, but 400 metres about some inland areas at first. Showes clearing from south this afternoon.

Canterbury

Patchy rain.

Otago and Southland, and Fiordland

Occasional rain with snow to about 500 metres. Rain gradually easing and snow levels lifting. Becoming fine about fiords.

Chatham Islands

Fine breaks and a few showers.
