A few showers for most, more persistent in western areas.

Friday

North Island: Mainly fine, isolated showers in the west. South Island: Rain with heavy falls in the west. Scattered rain developing later about Nelson, Marlborough and the far south. High cloud elsewhere.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy with occasional showers, turning to rain for a time early Friday. Northeasterlies turning northwest on Friday.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty

Often cloudy, with a few showers. Isolated thunderstorms for Northland, Waikato and Coromandel from afternoon.

Remainder of the North Island

Cloudy periods. Isolated showers becoming widespread and possibly heavy during the afternoon and evening, mainly inland.

Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland and Fiordland

A few showers, but a period of rain later this morning and afternoon.

Canterbury, Otago and Southland.

Often cloudy, with a few areas of morning low cloud or fog. Scattered showers, possibly heavy and thundery in the afternoon for Dunedin and Clutha.
