North Island, few showers in the west from Waikato to Kapiti, mainly fine elsewhere. South Island, rain in the west, heavy for a time. A period of late rain for Southland and Otago. Fine elsewhere.

Monday

North Island, few showers in the west from Waikato to Kapiti, mainly fine elsewhere. South Island, rain in west becoming heavy, late rain for Southland and Otago. Snow lowering to 500 metres in the south later. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Chatham Islands

A change on Saturday to showers and strong southwesterlies. On Sunday, showers clearing and southwesterlies easing. Few showers developing on Monday with northwesterlies.

For the North Island

Periods of rain with some heavy falls in the north, easing in most places tomorrow. Strong or gale northwesterlies north of Hamilton at times.

Nelson, Buller, Marlborough and Canterbury

Mostly cloudy. Rain developing tomorrow morning, persistent in the east.

Westland and Fiordland

Remaining areas of rain clearing this afternoon. However, rain developing north of the Glaciers tomorrow.

Otago and Southland

Fine at first apart from some rain about coastal Otago. Areas of fog tonight and tomorrow morning. Rain spreading inland tomorrow afternoon or evening, with snow to 800 metres in Central Otago.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy, with rain developing tomorrow morning.

Abel

Variable 10 knots. Easterly 15 knots developing north of Separation Point this evening. Southwest 15 knots but 25 knots in the north developing Friday evening. Sea becoming rough in the north. Northerly swell 1 metre developing for a time. Poor visibility in rain from Friday morning.

Outlook following 3 days: Easing Saturday evening variable 10 knots but westerly 15 knots in north. Becoming Monday northwest 15 knots but 25 knots in north.
