North Island: Mainly fine in the north and east. Isolated showers elsewhere, becoming more widespread in the west from Waitomo to Horowhenua Kapiti Coast. South Island: Rain or showers developing in the west and south, but mainly fine in the east.

Friday

North Island: A few showers in the west, but mainly fine from Bay of Plenty to Wairarapa and Wellington. South Island: Rain with possibly heavy falls in the west. Mainly fine elsewhere, but showers spreading north with a southwest change.

Chatham Islands

Rain with strong northerlies, easing to a few showers Wednesday as winds change westerly. Winds tending northwest and strengthening on Friday.

Northland to Waitomo, including Taupo

Mostly cloudy, with isolated showers.

Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty

Isolated showers clearing this afternoon and becoming fine.

Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa

Marlborough and Nelson

Tuesday : Northerly 15 knots, rising to northwest 25 knots in the morning. Becoming westerly 15 knots in the afternoon, but 25 knots north of Separation Point. Sea becoming rough. Northerly swell 1 metre, developing. Fair visibility in showers.

Outlook following 3 days: Wednesday: Changing southwest 15 knots everywhere in the morning, easing to variable 10 knots in the afternoon in the south. Rough sea easing. Thursday: Tending westerly 15 knots but northwest 25 knots in the north. Sea becoming rough in the north. Friday: Tending northwest 20 knots but 30 knots in the north. Rough sea easing for a time.
