Thursday

North Island, rain with heavy falls in the north and west, easing. A period of rain for southern and eastern areas. South Island, rain in the west spreading northwards, with heavy, thundery falls. Fine in the east, late showers in the south.

Friday

North Island, showers in the west, turning to rain for a time with heavy falls. Rain developing in the east from afternoon. South Island, showers in the west, some heavy and thundery. High cloud in the east, and a few showers in the south.

Saturday

North Island, occasional rain, clearing in the east, heavy falls in the west easing. Late showers in the south. South Island, showers, snow to low levels, gradually easing in the north and west.

Chatham Islands

Rain with heavy falls developing Thursday and northerlies rising to gale, easing to showers Friday with northerlies easing slightly. Rain returning Saturday, and northerlies rising to gale.

Northland, Auckland, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty

Rain with some heavy falls. A few thunderstorms possible in Northland this evening.

Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui and Taupo

Rain developing in Waikato this morning, then spreading elsewhere in the afternoon.

In the west from Taranaki to Wellington, including Wairarapa and Taihape

Mainly fine at first. Rain spreading south during the evening.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Rain in Gisborne, spreading south this afternoon and evening.

Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland

Generally fine weather.

Buller and Westland

Isolated showers in Westland, retreating to the south in the evening. Fine elsewhere, apart from some morning cloud.

Fiordland

Showers, mainly about the fiords.

Chatham Islands

Rain clearing before dawn, then mostly fine.

Abel

Westerly 15 knots but variable 10 knots south of Separation Point, easing to variable 10 knots everywhere early Wednesday morning. Becoming southwest 15 knots in the north for a time Wednesday evening. Sea slight.

Outlook following 3 days: Developing Thursday evening northwest 25 knots with rough sea.
