North Island, isolated showers in Northland and in the east gradually clearing. Elsewhere, fine with morning frost. South Island, fine with morning frosts, but isolated showers about fiords later.

Buller and Westland

Showers, clearing south of Hokitika this morning and elsewhere in the afternoon.

Fiordland, Otago and Southland

Showers, some heavy with hail, and thunderstorms possible near the coast until afternoon. Snow to 400 metres, gradually lifting this evening and showers easing.

Chatham Islands

Showers, some heavy and possibly thundery with hail.


Westerly 15 knots, rising to 25 knots early morning. Sea becoming rough. Southwest swell rising to 3 metres south of Mahia Peninsula late evening. Easterly swell 1 metre. Fair visibility in showers south of Mahia Peninsula from late evening.

Outlook following 3 days: Southwest 25 knots, rising in the south Tuesday morning southwest 35 knots with very rough sea, becoming everywhere Tuesday afternoon southwest 30 knots. Easing early Wednesday southerly 20 knots and late Wednesday variable 10 knots. Moderate southerly swell, easing Thursday.
