North Island: Cloudy periods and isolated showers, but mainly fine in the east. South Island: Rain developing for most, but clearing in Southland, Fiordland and Otago later.

Tuesday

North Island: Rain spreading from the south, clearing later south of Palmerston North. However, mostly dry with isolated showers north of Waikato. South Island: Rain in Buller, Nelson and Marlborough easing by afternoon. Becoming mainly fine with isolated showers elsewhere.

Wednesday

North Island: Rain or showers from Taihape northwards. Mainly fine further south. South Island: Mainly fine, just isolated showers in Westland.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy with strong northwesterlies on Monday. A period of rain with a strong southerly change Tuesday morning, then fine spells. Cloudy periods with strong southwesterlies on Wednesday.

Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula

Fine spells. Isolated afternoon showers possible.

Waikato to Taranaki including the central high country, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa

Cloudy morning and night with patchy drizzle. Scattered showers during the afternoon and evening. Some may be heavy with isolated thunderstorms possible in Taupo, Taihape, Hawke's Bay and Gisborne this afternoon.

Horowhenua to Wellington, also Nelson, Buller and Marlborough

Mainly fine, but cloud increasing with patchy drizzle developing this evening. Afternoon fine spells developing north of Nelson tomorrow.

Canterbury, Otago, Southland

Mostly fine. Areas of low cloud or fog about the Canterbury Plains clearing this afternoon. Cloud increasing tomorrow, rain spreading north from afternoon, reaching Timaru at night.

Westland and Fiordland

Rain becoming persistent tomorrow with heavy falls for a time in the afternoon and evening.

Chatham Islands

Low cloud and drizzle at times.

Portland

Saturday : Northerly 15 knots. Sea slight. Southwest swell 1 metre, period 14 seconds. Sunday : Northerly 15 knots rising to 25 knots north of Mahia Peninsula for a time in the afternoon and evening. Sea becoming rough for a time in the north. Southwest swell 1 metre, period 12 seconds. Northeast swell 1 metre developing. Fair visibility in evening showers about the coast.

Outlook following 3 days: Monday: Northerly 20 knots. Tuesday: Changing southerly 20 knots from late morning. Southerly swell becoming moderate offshore. Wednesday: Easing to variable 10 knots. Moderate swell southerly offshore, easing.
