South Island, rain in the west and north, heavy at times. Scattered rain in the south, and a few spots elsewhere. Severe gale northwesterlies in Canterbury and Marlborough.

Tuesday

North Island, rain for most, with heavy falls about the ranges, easing to a few showers later. Severe gale northwesterlies in the east and south. South Island, rain or showers for most, but scattered light rain in Canterbury. Severe gale northwesterly in Marlborough easing.

Wednesday

showers for most of the country, clearing evening or night.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods, with a few showers Monday and Tuesday. Northwesterlies possibly rising to gale for a time on Tuesday. Rain developing on Wednesday, clearing later.

Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula

Cloudy about the west coast. Becoming cloudy everywhere tomorrow.

Bay of Plenty, also Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Fine, apart from a few showers about Bay of Plenty and Gisborne clearing tonight. Some morning cloud, otherwise fine.

Waikato to Taranaki, including Taumarunui and Taupo

Fine. Low cloud spreading east tomorrow with drizzle from afternoon.

Whanganui and Taihape to Wellington, also Wairarapa

Low cloud and drizzle spreading from the west tomorrow morning and afternoon. However, mainly fine in Wairarapa.

Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury

Mainly fine. Northwest gales in Canterbury tomorrow.

Buller to Fiordland

Rain, becoming heavy with thunderstorms possible about and south of the Glaciers. Strengthening northerlies, rising to gale about Fiordland tomorrow morning.

Otago and Southland

Scattered rain, clearing tonight but returning later tomorrow. Northwesterlies rising to gale tomorrow afternoon.

Chatham Islands

Fine today, cloudy periods and a few showers tomorrow.

Portland

Variable 10 knots. Northerly 15 knots but westerly 20 knots north of East Cape developing early this afternoon. Sea becoming moderate in the north. Easterly swell 2 metres, easing.

Outlook following 3 days: Northwest rising Monday to 25 knots everywhere and Tuesday 35 knots for a time with very rough seas. Easing Wednesday morning variable 10 knots in the south and elsewhere late Wednesday.
