North Island, a few showers for most, possibly heavy during the afternoon and evening. South Island, showers in the west gradually clearing. Mainly fine elsewhere, apart from isolated afternoon and evening showers.


North Island, cloud increasing, and rain developing in the evening from the west. South Island, cloud increasing and rain developing, possibly heavy in the west.


North Island, rain, briefly heavy, easing to a few showers. Clearing in the east to a mostly sunny day. South Island, Rain at times in the west and far south, some heavy falls possible along the main divide. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Chatham Islands

Rain and northerlies on Monday, to cloudy periods on Tuesday. Northerlies strengthening and rain developing again late Wednesday.

For all of the North Island, except Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Mainly cloudy, with a few showers. A band of heavier rain moves eastwards across most areas tomorrow with isolated squally thunderstorms.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay

Cloudy periods increasing. Isolated showers, more widespread for a time tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Northern Marlborough and Nelson

Showers becoming widespread for a time overnight with possible thunderstorms, clearing later tomorrow.

Remainder of Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland

Fine and cloudy periods, with isolated showers. Showers more widespread inland south of Christchurch tomorrow afternoon, some heavy and thundery with hail.

Buller and Westland

A few showers, turning to periods of heavier rain overnight with isolated thunderstorms.


Occasional showers, heavy at times.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy, with occasional rain or drizzle.


Northeast 15 knots, rising to 25 knots south of Poverty Bay this afternoon and everywhere Sunday morning. Sea becoming rough everywhere. Easterly swell 1 metre.

Outlook following 3 days: Northerly 25 knots, changing Monday westerly 15 knots. Becoming late Tuesday northerly 20 knots, changing Wednesday westerly 25 knots. Sea rough at times.
