Tuesday

North Island, showers, but mainly fine with isolated showers about Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. South Island, showers for most, more persistent from afternoon.Snow possibly lowering to 600 metres in far south.

Wednesday

North Island, showers, more persistent about east coast, gradually clearing from the southwest. Gale southwesterlies north of Waikato. South Island, few showers in the south and about east coast,clearing to fine in the east. Mainly fine elsewhere, but cloud increasing and a few showers developing about the west coast.

Thursday

North Island, a few showers, turning to a period of rain about the central and lower parts. South Island, rain in the south and west, easing to few showers,then clearing in west. A few showers elsewhere with a strong southwesterly change.

Chatham Islands

On Tuesday, cloudy with occasional rain and strong westerlies. From Wednesday, periods of showers or rain, with southwesterlies strong at times.

Northland to Wellington, including Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Partly cloudy, with a few showers tomorrow.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Isolated showers tomorrow afternoon, otherwise fine.

Marlborough and Nelson

Mainly fine. Showers developing in western Nelson tomorrow morning, and briefly spreading elsewhere for a time.

Buller and Westland

Rain spreading north this evening with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms, then turning to showers tomorrow.

Canterbury and Otago, excluding Clutha

Mainly fine today, brief light rain in Otago this afternoon. Scattered showers tomorrow, mainly in the afternoon when some could be heavy with hail.

Clutha, Fiordland and Southland

Periods of rain and possible thunderstorms for Fiordland, and brief rain elsewhere this afternoon. Showers tomorrow, some heavy with hail, and snow lowering to 600 metres.

Chatham Islands

Mostly cloudy, with occasional drizzle tomorrow.

Portland

North of East Cape: Westerly 20 knots, rising to 30 knots Monday afternoon. Elsewhere: Northeast 15 knots, easing to variable 10 knots this evening. Northwest 15 knots developing overnight tonight, rising to 25 knots Monday evening. Sea becoming rough. Southwest swell 1 metre.

Outlook following 3 days: Westerly 30 knots, easing for a time Tuesday afternoon variable 10 knots in the south. Becoming early Wednesday southwest 40 knots but northwest 35 knots in the north, and late Wednesday southwest 40 knots everywhere. Easing for a time Thursday westerly 25 knots. Sea very rough at times. Moderate southwest swell developing Wednesday.
