North Island: Mainly fine in the north and east. Isolated showers elsewhere, becoming more widespread in the west from Waitomo to Horowhenua Kapiti Coast. South Island: Rain or showers developing in the west and south, but mainly fine in the east.

Friday

North Island: A few showers in the west, but mainly fine from Bay of Plenty to Wairarapa and Wellington. South Island: Rain with possibly heavy falls in the west. Mainly fine elsewhere, but showers spreading north with a southwest change.

Chatham Islands

Rain with strong northerlies, easing to a few showers Wednesday as winds change westerly. Winds tending northwest and strengthening on Friday.

Northland to Waitomo, including Taupo

Mostly cloudy, with isolated showers.

Coromandel Peninsula and Bay of Plenty

Isolated showers clearing this afternoon and becoming fine.

Gisborne, Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa

Occasional morning rain in Gisborne, otherwise mainly fine and warm. Scattered rain developing in Wairarapa this afternoon.

Taranaki to Wellington including Taumarunui and Taihape

Fine spells. Isolated showers becoming widespread for a time this morning and afternoon, possibly thundery.

Marlborough and Nelson

A few showers, some heavy, clearing this evening and becoming fine.

Buller, Westland and Fiordland

Periods of rain, with squally thunderstorms and hail possible.

Canterbury, Otago and Southland

Fine in Canterbury at first. Scattered rain elsewhere, becoming persistent in Otago and inland Southland this afternoon. A few showers developing in Canterbury from late morning.

Chatham Islands

Low cloud and rain at times.
