Kiwi Rubin Statham’s giant killing at the ASB Classic has come to an end after going down to Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round tonight.

The 31-year-old Statham went down in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 to Struff on centre court a day after upsetting world No 25 Chung Hyeon in the biggest win of his career.

Struff, the world No.58 from Germany, will face Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinals

The Spaniard advanced after four-time champion David Ferrer withdrew from their match to a calf injury.

Ferrer’s withdrawal was part of sensational day of upsets at the Classic with top seed John Isner losing in the second round 7-6, 7-6 to fellow American Taylor Fritz.
