Kiwi Artem Sitak and doubles partner Divij Sharan have been eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the ASB Classic, falling in a thriller to Belgian duo Sander Gille and Joran Vliegan.

Having taken the first set 7-5, Sitak and Sharan would end up on the wrong side of a second set tiebreaker, going down 7-3 to send the match into a third.

The second set loss was made all the harsher with Sitak and Sharan squandering two match points.

Scores level at 1-1, a super tiebreak was needed - the two pairs unable to be separated, changing ends at 3-3.

Again, scores would be locked at 6-6 and 9-9, before Sitak's missed volley gave the Belgian pair match point.

From there, Gille and Vliegan didn't waste their chance to take the match, with Sharan's attempted volley into the net. The Belgian pair won 5-7, 7-6, 11-9.
