According to WPBF-25 News reporter Chris Shepherd, the 35-year-old and her fiance, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, welcomed a little girl into the world, weighing six pounds, 13 ounces.
Reports earlier in the week claimed that an entire floor of St Mary's Medical Centre in West Palm Beach had been cleared in order to give the 23-time Grand Slam champion maximum privacy.
Shortly after the news broke, congratulatory messages began to pour in for the couple on social media from fans and friends alike.
One friend included the joyous reactions was Beyonce who gave birth to twins in July - the musician shared an uncaptioned photo of Williams to her Instagram taken from a recent photoshoot where she proudly displayed her pregnancy.
Williams' fellow tennis pro Rafael Nadal also shared his joy at the news on social media, writing on Twitter: 'Congrats Serena!!! So much joy for you!!!'
Williams confirmed in a recent interview with Vogue she "definitely" had plans to return the court.
"It's hard to figure out what the end of your tennis career should look like," she said.
"I used to think I'd want to retire when I have kids, but no. I'm definitely coming back. Walking out there and hearing the crowd, it may seem like nothing. But there's no better feeling in the world."
