What's it like as an All Black? 'Every day I pinch myself' says new AB Tahuriorangi

September 9, 2018

Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi made his first appearance in the black jersey last night.

New All Blacks halfback Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi was beaming after last night's 46-24 win over Argentina in Nelson, making his Test debut against the Pumas.

Tahuriorangi, 23, became All Black number 1174 when he entered the field at Trafalgar Park last night, fulfilling the childhood dream of just about every Kiwi rugby fan.

Speaking to media after the match, the halfback spoke about what it meant to wear the black jersey for the very first time.

"I've just been in a grateful position," he began.

"I can wake up every day and pinch myself that I'm an All Black.

"I'm still learning - every day I've got to be grateful , a lot of boys would love to be in my position."

The halfback's rapid rise to the international ranks didn't go unnoticed by Tahuriorangi himself, admitting his surprise at his call up.

"This time last year, I think I was playing Mitre 10 (Cup).

"A year later, being here, getting my first cap, is surreal.

"As a kid, this is what you dream of. It probably won't sink in until I go home and see all my family."
