'We've always seen our men go and compete' – NZ women buzzing ahead of historic Commonwealth Games sevens campaign

January 23, 2018

The Gold Coast games will see women's sevens involved for the very first time.

NZ's Sevens Sisters are relishing the chance to compete at the Commonwealth Games for the first time, with women's sevens to debut on the Gold Coast later this year.

Having won silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics, New Zealand's women will have a chance to add another medal to their collection, as they prepare to make an historic debut for the sport in Australia in April.

Speaking to 1 NEWS today, Tyla Nathan-Wong said that the team are looking forward to creating history for generations to come.

"We've always seen our men go and compete," she said.

"Competing at the Olympics for the very first time in 2016 was an amazing experience, and I know the Commonwealth Games are going to be just as good."

"We're so excited."
