'We weren't believing we could win': Pumas coach reveals side's biggest problem

September 8, 2018

Mario Ledesma says some players had faith but the squad on the whole is yet to see their potential.

Argentina coach Mario Ledesma was impressed by the skills his team displayed in their hard-fought loss to the All Blacks but there's one key thing still lacking from their game - belief.

Despite the 46-24 scoreline, the Pumas dominated in most areas of the match at Trafalgar Park in Nelson as they looked to earn their first ever win against the New Zealand side.

But Ledesma said after the match his side won't find that milestone until they believe they can which he feels they currently don't.

"The win doesn't give you the belief," he said.

"You win because you believe. At times [in the game], I thought we weren't believing."

Ledesma was also frustrated his side allowed the All Blacks to score directly after they had multiple times in the game.

"Not only that, but I thought there were times where we were putting pressure on them in their 22, gave up an easy penalty, they went to a lineout, penalty, they went to another lineout and then they scored.

"They did the whole 100m of the field without working hard enough."
