Watch: 'We have cuddles!' SBW jokes about lasting partnership with ABs midfield partner Ryan Crotty

October 6, 2017

Williams also took a cheeky dig at Crotty after he supposedly beat him in this morning's power session.

Sonny Bill Williams has revealed how he and All Blacks midfield partner Ryan Crotty have built and maintained their strong partnership on and off the field - "cuddles".

Williams was asked by reporters whether it takes much for the duo to "reconnect" after Crotty was rested for the Argentina leg of the All Blacks' back-to-back away games to finish the Rugby Championship.

"Oh, we have cuddles and that sometimes, watch a movie or two!" he joked.

The hard-hitting centre became just the third All Black in history to be red carded in June – something he doesn’t want to repeat.

"We've played together for years, going back to the Crusaders [in 2011] so I just listen and do as I'm told."

Williams also joked with reporters that he had a reason to get hyped for training this week, despite the All Blacks already having the Rugby Championship won.

"You forgot the power session this morning - I had a race with Crotty and I got up too - pretty happy about that!"

The All Blacks coach wasn't playing games when he was asked for specifics about the team's mental game.

The pair have been named to start together when the All Blacks play the Springboks on Sunday at 4am NZT in Cape Town.
