Watch: Tasman conjure superb counter-attacking try from nothing as big win over Otago puts them top of table

Tasman have again surged to the top of the Mitre 10 Cup's Premiership standings after a comprehensive 47-21 win over Otago in Dunedin this afternoon.

Playing under Forsyth Barr Stadium's roof, the Mako secured their eighth win of the season after roaring to a 21-0 lead in the opening 25 minutes of the game.

The third try in the early onslaught was conjured from nothing after the Mako managed to recover a tactical Otago kick in their 22m and run it back for seven points.

Tima Faingaanuku and Will Jordan combined for the play, leaving multiple Otago defenders in their wake as they sprinted down the left wing before Jordan received the ball and headed for the line.

Otago finally crossed the line in the second half, but it wasn't enough to rein in the competition leaders who added three more tries after the break to earn the win.

Otago now gears up for a shot at the Ranfurly Shield, next Saturday in Hamilton against Waikato, while Tasman hosts Hawke’s Bay on Thursday night in Nelson.
