Watch: Jack Goodhue reveals secret to quick recovery from glandular fever - mum's chicken soup

November 9, 2018

The All Blacks midfielder will start against England after some rest at home in Kawakawa.

Jack Goodhue is back in the All Blacks line up and ready for the biggest Test of his career so far thanks to some good old fashioned home cooking from his mum.

Goodhue has been named to start at centre against England on Sunday morning when the All Blacks play at Twickenham, but his place in the squad was in jeopardy after he was held back from the first part of the northern tour with glandular fever.

"If anyone knows about glandular fever, it can last a while," he said.

"I was getting told some horror stories that you could be out for six months or something so I wasn't really sure what to expect."

The 23-year-old instead spent the Japan leg back in Northland recovering with a classic meal.

"Went up home to Northland, in Kawakawa, mum got me on the chicken soup and I bounced back pretty quick."

Goodhue flew directly to London to link up with the team after overcoming the illness, with blood tests confirming he has fully recovered and able to make his sixth All Blacks appearance.

Sunday's Test kicks off at 4am NZT.
