All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has spoken about the call-up of young Auckland flanker Blake Gibson to his training squad ahead of their clash with Argentina in New Plymouth this week.
With Sam Cane only just returning to fitness, and Matt Todd ruled out through injury, the All Blacks stocks in the number seven jersey appear to be at a low, with Hansen eager to look his options for the future.
"It created a thought process of gee whiz, who is next?" Hansen said.
"It came down to Blake and the two Otago boys, (James) Lentjes and (Dillon) Hunt."
Hansen also praised Gibson, who has impressed in his short time playing at the top level.
"He's good over the ball, he's a strong, physical player."
"He's a New Zealand under-20 player... we still think he's got a future."
