'That's not the NZ way' - Springboks coach says All Blacks were never gunning for drop-goal match winner

Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus had no doubt in his mind that the All Blacks were chasing a match winning try in his team's 36-34 upset win in Wellington.

Erasmus was asked at a press conference had he thought about a drop goal from the home side, with the South African coach saying New Zealand were always gunning for a try.

"I think that is New Zealand you know, they would win it with a try," said Erasmus.

"That's the way they do things, again that is a compliment to them."

In the dying moments of the Rugby Championship match, Damian McKenzie had the ball stripped from him just as it looked like the All Blacks were going to score.

"I didn't even think that Beauden (Barrett) would drop goal.

"I guess it was an option to score but that is not the New Zealand way," said Erasmus.

"Maybe in a World Cup Beauden would do that but not in a (Rugby) Championship game."
