The Hurricanes are eagerly anticipating their first local derby of the current Super Rugby season against the Crusaders this weekend, fullback Jordie Barrett says.
After a shock loss to the Bulls in their opening match of the season, the Hurricanes responded in style with a gritty win over the Jaguares in Buenos Aires last week to open their account - now tasked with a match up against the reigning champion Crusaders.
Speaking to media yesterday, Barrett said that his teammates couldn't wait to finally face off against a fellow Kiwi side, taking on the Crusaders in their first match at Westpac Stadium on Saturday.
"All New Zealand derbies are massive for us," he said.
"It's a game all of us players want to be a part of - testing ourselves against the best."
"It's a massively exciting challenge. Hopefully there'll be a big crowd so we're all looking forward to it."
Barrett also played down his side's superior record against the Crusaders in recent times, with the Hurricanes having emerged victorious in six of the last 10 meetings against one another.
"They're two from two and they're a quality side, so it's going to be a massive challenge."
"On the day anyone can win, so that's the way we're looking at it."
The two Kiwi powerhouses will come face-to-face in Wellington this weekend.
