Steve Hansen says he'll decide on future with All Blacks before Christmas

November 19, 2018

The coach could walk away after next year's World Cup.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has hinted he will make a decision about his future before enjoying his Christmas festivities.

Hansen, 59, has been involved with the All Blacks coaching set-up since 2004, initially serving as an assistant to Sir Graham Henry, before ascending to the position of head coach in 2012.

However, speculation has continued to suggest that the World Cup winner could walk away from the job after next year's tournament in Japan.

Speaking to media this morning, Hansen was asked about the future of Ireland's Kiwi boss Joe Schmidt, who has been heavily touted as the All Blacks' next coach.

Schmidt will announce his coaching future after Ireland's clash with the USA next week, with Hansen saying he has no idea what his compatriots next move will be.

"You'll have to ask Joe," he began.

"We're all going to be making announcements shortly."

Naturally, Hansen was pressed to elaborate on what he meant, to which the All Blacks coach urged patience.

"Not right now, no.

"I decided before I left (for Europe) that I was going to make one.

"I'll do that when I get home, at some stage before Christmas."
