Sonny Bill Williams silences critics with display against Wallabies, says Steve Hansen

August 17, 2019

Often maligned, Williams showed his wares as the All Blacks retained the Bledisloe Cup.

Sonny Bill Williams' display against the Wallabies had coach Steve Hansen happy, as his side retained the Bledisloe Cup with a 36-0 victory at Eden Park.

Often maligned by fans and commentators, Williams responded in style after a run of injuries, scoring a try and involved in both attack and defence as the Wallabies had no answer to the All Blacks' all-round display.

"Sonny's been under a lot of pressure," Hansen began.

"[He] hasn't played many games because of his injury. He's had a run of games and played well tonight.

"When we needed someone to go direct, funnily enough, the ball would go into his hands and he'd do that.

"We're pretty happy with how he played."
