Sonny Bill Williams says he was blessed to be able to meet UFC superstar and fellow Muslim Khabib Nurmagomedov in Sydney over the weekend.
The All Blacks midfielder posted photos of himself and Khabib on Twitter and Instagram.
"Alhamdulillah. Blessed to meet & share the stage with the brother @khabib_nurmagomedov 🦅 May the most high continue to bless your journey," Williams wrote as the caption.
Photos of the pair plus ex-boxer and NRL player Anthony Mundine, a longtime friend of Williams, were also posted on social media.
Williams is a fan of Nurmagomedov, posting on Twitter before and after the Russian’s victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in October.
The event descended into farce after Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor, with a wild brawl breaking out involving the fighters and both of their corners when Nurmagomedov jumped out of the octagon to attack one of McGregor's cornermen.
Nurmagomedov, who grew up in Dagestan in Russia, is the UFC lightweight champion with a 27-0 record in the UFC.
