The All Blacks coaches want to make sure Sonny Bill Williams' return to rugby union is as simple as possible.
The 29-year-old dual international will reacquaint himself in the 15-man sport after being selected in the up coming tour to the US and UK.
He's one of a 34-strong squad for the end of year tour after just two matches for Counties in their ITM Cup campagain.
Williams was part of the successful All Blacks squad at the 2011 Rugby World Cup and played 19 Tests in the black jersey before turning his back on union in 2012 to return to the NRL via the Sydney Roosters.
Coach Steven Hansen says SBW will probably play in his favoured number 12 jersey.
"Twelve is obviously his number one position but I think he can play 12, he can play 13, he's played on the winger fo the All Blacks off the bench.'
"But realistically what we want to do with Sonny is get him back into playing rugby, get him back into understanding what we want to do and limit the number of positions he has to learn at this point would be sensible."
Williams is one of four midfielders going on tour with Conrad Smith, Ryan Crotty and Malakai Fekitoa.
