Scott Robertson 'optimistic' heading into All Blacks coach interview - 'They know who they're getting'

July 8, 2019

The Crusaders coach said he's done all he can - now all that's left is December's interview.

Scott Robertson says he's "optimistic" about his chances of becoming the next All Blacks coach but he'll have a clearer picture closer to his interview in December.

The Crusaders coach will head into the interview with an impressive domestic resume after his side completed their three-peat on Saturday night when they won their third title under Robertson.

But Robertson says there's plenty of time between that 19-3 win over the Jaguares and his meeting with New Zealand Rugby officials.

"I've got to prepare as best I can to put myself forward," he said during the Crusaders' victory parade in Christchurch today.

"I've done what I can do so then hopefully I'll have a great interview and if they want someone, they know who they're getting with me.

"We'll wait for December."

When asked how Robertson feels about his chances, he was coy with his answer.

"Ask me closer to the time," he said.

"I'm a pretty optimistic person - if you have a crack I'd like to think you have a chance."

New Zealand Rugby is looking to find Steve Hansen's successor after this year's World Cup following the current All Blacks coach's announcement earlier this year he'd be stepping down after the tournament in Japan.
