Scott Barrett 'fortunate' to be All Blacks back up to Sam Whitelock, Brodie Retallick

September 10, 2018

Beauden Barrett said Scott wouldn’t see it as being unlucky to play in the same era as the two world-class locks.

Crusaders lock Scott Barrett isn't holding any grudges about playing back up to Sam Whitelock and Brodie Retallick in the All Blacks.

In fact, brother Beauden believes he's lucky to play in the same era as the two world-class locks.

Beauden was asked by media today whether Scott, who was sitting next to him, was "unlucky" to play in the same generation as Whitelock and Retallick but the first-five disagreed.

"Scott would say he's fortunate," he said.

"Just to be able to rub shoulders and go out there.. it's a blessing. Although he's behind those two a fair bit, when he does come on he plays well so it's good for the squad."

Scott could see more time in the starting position for the All Blacks after it was revealed following Saturday's win against the Pumas that Retallick will miss six weeks with a rotator cuff shoulder injury.

Blues lock Patrick Tuipulotu has been called into the squad as injury cover.
