Ryan Crotty ‘thrilled’ to be back in All Blacks and headed to World Cup, Ian Foster says

September 3, 2019

Foster described Crotty as a ‘very keen, very enthusiastic young man’.

Ryan Crotty is “thrilled” to be selected to play for the All Blacks at the Rugby World Cup in Japan, says assistant coach of the All Blacks Ian Foster.

Despite the veteran All Blacks midfielder missing the whole season after fracturing his thumb in the Crusaders’ Super Rugby semi-final win over the Hurricanes back in June, Foster says the 30-year-old is up to speed to join the squad.

“I know he’s thrilled to be named in a World Cup squad and excited about the opportunity to get back in and involved.

“He’s a guy that’s a little behind in terms of game time but he’s certainly been really professional off the park and it was good to see him play 40 minutes on the weekend and come through that really well.

“[He’s a] very keen, very enthusiastic young man at the moment.”

Crotty joins Jack Goodhue, Anton Linert-Brown and Sonny Bill William as this year's mid-fielders for the World Cup.
