One of the things near the top of Rieko Ioane's Christmas wish list this year is another shot at proving himself in the midfield in 2021 with the speedster telling 1 NEWS he still wants to wear No.13 - in both a blue and a black jersey.
Ioane spent today with his brother Akira and other Blues teammates giving presents to the Salvation Army for families who can't afford them after getting out of managed isolation with the All Blacks last week.
Ioane told 1 NEWS he used the 14 days of quarantine to look back on an up and down season in which he pushed his case to move from the outside backs to the midfield.
"I had a bit of time in that isolation to do a bit of reflecting," he said.
"There will be a bit more [reflecting] over the New Years and once we get back into it but at the moment, I'm pretty happy."
Ioane was then asked if he still wanted to push for the midfield after he spent some time back on the wing with the All Blacks in Australia.
"[Midfield] is where I want to be from here on out - that's the plan," Ioane said.
"Form dictates that but No.13 is where I want to be... it's hotly contested in the Blues and the All Blacks so I've just got to keep playing well and push my case."
In the meantime though, Ioane said he's going to enjoy the festive season.
"I'm just looking forward to the big break now to refresh and rejuvenate for next year."
