Richie McCaw as New Zealand's first president? - Andrew Little thinks so

All Blacks captain Richie McCaw continues to be the most popular man in New Zealand this week.

Today Labour leader Andrew Little said the thinks McCaw should be New Zealand's first president.

Speaking on TVNZ's Breakfast programme this morning Mr Little described McCaw as: "A great New Zealand hero".

"He is arguably the best rugby player not only in the world today but perhaps in the hsitory of the game.

"Maybe party politics is too small for him. We think first president of NZ".

Mr Little's suggestion comes a day after the prime minister said McCaw will be re-offered a knighthood.

McCaw led the All Blacks to a crushing win over the Wallabies on Saturday night, taking home the Bledisloe Cup after a 41-13 win.
