Auckland secondary school prodigy Taniela Tupou, AKA The Tongan Thor, has taken his next step to the big time with a standout performance for the Queensland Under 20s.
Anticipation of the 135kg prop's rise through the ranks has been closely followed by Australian media and while the long range tries have dried up, his impact is still noticeable.
Playing in the new national Under 20s league, the Sydney's Daily Telegraph reported that Tupou's core duties were well executed with a trademark bulldozer run in the third minute bringing comparisons with the late Jonah Lomu.
Tupou's mobility was visible throughout and a bullocking run on the hour mark threw off four would-be NSW tacklers, renewing the excitement that follows the Sacred Heart old boy wherever he plays.
Although some see him as ready for the next level, 2017 is a more realistic expectation for fully-fledged Super Rugby.
