Politically conscious Wallabies star David Pocock enjoyed a chat with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern after his courageous performance in Australia's Bledisloe Cup defeat at Eden Park.

Pocock, who is as renowned for his political views as his skills at the breakdown, "made a direct line to Jacinda Ardern post match and they’re having a good chat," Radio New Zealand's Jamie Wall wrote on Twitter.

He was photographed smiling on the field after the match as he spoke to Ms Ardern and her partner Clarke Gayford.

In 2014, the 30-year-old was arrested for taking part in a protest against the expansion of a mine in New South Wales.

He has also spoken out against homophobia, even alerting a referee to the fact that homophobic slurs were being used by Waratahs players during a Super Rugby match in 2015.

Pocock is an advocate for marriage equality, with he and partner Emma Palandri refusing to sign the sign their marriage documents until their gay friends could be wed.

On the field, the loose forward was a rare bright spot for the Wallabies as they lost 40-12 to the All Blacks.
