What a pass! Mitchell Hunt's huge cut-out ball sets up clinching try as Tasman stun NPC champs Canterbury

August 18, 2018

Tasman got a small slice of revenge over Canterbury for defeats the past two Premiership finals with a classy 25-17 win in Blenheim last night.

The Makos outclassed their fellow Crusaders province, keeping them to just three points before Canterbury scored two late tries after Tasman were reduced to 14 men by a yellow card.

Tasman had set up the win with two tries shortly after halftime to increase their 10-3 halftime lead to 19 points.

Chiefs wing and Tasman debutant Solomon Alaimalo scored the second of those tries, following up on the inside after a huge cut-out pass from Mitchell Hunt had put flanker Jed Brown away on the outside.

Tasman 25  Levi Aumua, Quinten Strange, Solomon Alaimalo; Mitch Hunt 10 points (2 pen, 2 con)  Canterbury 17  (Greg Pleasants-Tate 2 tries; Brett Cameron 7 points (pen, 2 con). HT: 10-3
