One-Test All Black and Hurricanes centre Matt Proctor has joined in on the New Zealand rugby exodus, signing for English club side Northampton Saints.

Proctor, 26, made his All Blacks debut against Japan late last year and will join up with former Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd in Northampton.

The move all but rules Proctor out of representing New Zealand at this year's World Cup in Japan, with coach Steve Hansen often opting for players who have committed to the All Blacks, although there have been exceptions.

"For a long time I've had the ambition of testing myself in the Northern Hemisphere, and for so many reasons Northampton is a great fit," Proctor told the Saints' website.

Boyd says that he's looking forward to working with Proctor again, with the pair having been part of the Hurricanes' one and only Super Rugby title in 2016.

"Matt is exactly the calibre of player that we want to be bringing to Northampton - he's a world-class talent."

Proctor will play out the 2019 Super Rugby season with the Hurricanes, before making the move north.
