NZ Sevens team destroyed by USA in woeful season finale




Sir Gordon Tietjens' famed record with the NZ Sevens team took a big dent today with a 14-42 drubbing at the hands of 2016 bogey team USA.

Leading at one point in the first half, the defending World Series champs imploded, allowing a run of six unanswered tries to the the American speedsters and issue doubts about the Rio Games chances.

Experimentation has been a new ingredient for Tietjens' team in 2016 and only now has his team been close to a final selection.

USA went on to come third in the event after beating Fiji in their playoff 26-19.

Fiji secured the overall World Series title with their qualification into the quarter-finals.
