Wallabies coach Michael Cheika's job is safe going into 2019, a report from Australia's Daily Telegraph says.

Having seen out the Wallabies' worst season in 60 years, Cheika's position has come under immense scrutiny in recent weeks, with the Rugby Australia board meeting earlier this week  to decide his fate.

The Wallabies won just four of 13 Tests in 2018, with speculation rife that Cheika would be axed, replaced by compatriot Scott Johnson, currently in Scotland, where he was coach from 2012 to 2014.

Instead though, the Daily Telegraph understands that Johnson will instead be placed in a director of rugby role, helping oversee Cheika's side.

Rugby Australia have said that they will announce their decision before Christmas.
