Matt Faddes pounces on loose ball, scores runaway try in Highlanders' win over Crusaders

The Highlanders have defeated defending Super Rugby champs the Crusaders 42-26 in their last pre-season match in Waimumu today.

The Highlanders led at the break 28-19 over the Crusaders.

Matt Faddes scored the opening try of the match, pouncing on a loose ball and raced away to score under the posts against the Crusaders.

He scored a hat-trick in the first half for the Highlanders.

The Highlanders take on the Blues next Friday at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin in their season opener.

TJ Perenara snipes over for cheeky try as Hurricanes get up in final pre-season clash against the Blues

The Hurricanes outclassed the Blues 26-14 in their final Super Rugby pre-season hit out in Warkworth this afternoon.

TJ Perenara scored a solid try for the Hurricanes off a set-piece scrum in the first spell, backing himself close to the try-line.

Hurricanes' No. 8 Gareth Evans popped Perenara the ball at the back of an attacking scrum, with the nifty halfback stepping off his right foot before breaking the Blues' defensive line to score.

The Blues however led at the break 14-12.

The Hurricanes take on the Bulls in their first Super Rugby match in Pretoria on February 25.

The Hurricanes and Blues final pre-season match in Warkworth was momentarily stopped after prop Chris Eves suffered a suspected serious neck injury.

Medical staff went on the field to assesed Eves' injury and were joined by ambulance staff.

Eves' Hurricanes front row partners Ricky Riccitelli and Ben May jumped into action, running from the bench to help carry him on the stretcher to the ambulance.
