Ma'a Nonu still has ambitions to play for All Blacks, but focused on performing for Blues and eating lunch

February 12, 2019

The 36-year-old All Blacks great said he'll take it "one step at a time" as he gears up for his return to Super Rugby.

Ma'a Nonu admitted donning on the black jersey for the All Blacks is still in the back of his mind, but says he first needs to perform for the Blues.

The 36-year-old midfielder returned to New Zealand last year from France having played for Toulon since 2016.

Nonu spoke to media today in Auckland revealing his first goal is to crack the Blues starting team.

"For me it's about making the Blues team first so one step at a time," said Nonu.

The crafty veteran didn't rule out a possibility of putting his hand up for Rugby World Cup selection for New Zealand.

"Well I think it is there, you know, in everyone's minds [All Blacks].

"All I'm thinking about is lunch right now and the game this week."

Nonu played 103 Tests for the All Blacks, with his last being the World Cup final win in 2015.

The Blues open their Super Rugby campaign against the Crusaders this Saturday at Eden Park.
