Highlanders come from behind to clinch thrilling win over gutsy Queensland Reds

Matt Faddes makes a crucial tackle and strip, forcing the Reds to lose the ball in the final minute. Faddes regathers the ball and kicks the ball into touch. The Reds showed great tenacity in the Dunedin clash but the Highlanders were just too good in the end, coming away with the win.

TRY! Matt Faddes makes a great break down the right edge, he throws a dummy and breaks through a tackle before offloading the Ben Smith on the inside. Smith then gives the ball to Kayne Hammington who is tackled just centimetres short of the try-line.

The Highlanders stay patient and they spread the ball wide down the left side and Dillon Hunt goes over to score and give the Highlanders the lead. Josh Ioane nails his conversion attempt from out wide.

TURNOVER! The Highlanders butcher a chance to score as the Reds secure a crucial turnover deep inside their own 22. The ref blows his whistle and gives the visitors a penalty - ruling the Highlanders failed to release the ball in the tackle.

TRY! The Reds turn down a penalty kick at goal and opt for a line-out. It pays off as their forwards rumble it up and it is prop Feao Fotuaika who charges over to score for the visitors.

MISTAKE! A rare mistake from the Highlanders fullback Ben Smith - he tries to keep the ball in play but he has put a foot in touch and the Reds have an attacking line-out inside the home team's 22.

TRY! Just as it looked like the Highlanders were going to score the Reds make the Highlanders pay for a mistake. Tei Walden is smashed in a big tackle inside the Reds' 22 and the Reds pounce on the loose ball. The throw the ball around and it is Izack Rodda who goes over to score. Some great offloading and counter attack from the Reds.

The kick is good by Bryce Hegarty. Teihorangi Walden is replaced by Highlanders' Marty Banks.

TRY! The Highlanders turd down another kickable penalty. The Highlanders win the line-out and charge up the field through their forwards. Shannon Frizell gets his hands on the ball and powers over to score his second try of the match.

And we are back underway! Josh Ioane kicks it deep towards the Queensland Reds.

The Higlanders have a battle on their hands with the Reds showing great attacking flair to stay in this one. The Queensland Reds have taken their opportunities and trail the home team by just one converted try. 

Shannon Frizell has been instrumental for the Highlanders with his strong carries and work around the breakdown. He earned his side a crucial penalty at halfway late in the first half after the Reds were ruled to have not released the ball in the tackle.

Line-outs has been an area of concern for the Highlanders as the Reds managed to steal several line-out throws by the home team, with one line-out steal leading to a try late in the first spell.

TRY! The Reds hit back! They make a steal at line-out time and quickly shift the ball down their left edge. Sefa Naivalu makes a clever break down the left flank and throws an inside ball to Moses Sorovi who crosses over to score the Reds' second try of the match.

The conversion attempt is on target by Bryce Hegarty.

TRY! Matt Faddes runs a spectacular line off Aaron Smith off a line-out play. Faddes trips up 10m from the try-line, the Highlanders recognise the space out to the left and shift it there quick. Josh Ioane fires a skip out pass to Ben Smith and he dives over the left hand corner for the Highlanders' third try of the match.

Josh Ioane is again on point with his conversion attempt.

TRY! The Highlanders turn down three easy points at goal and opt for a line-out after the Reds were penalised for being offside. The forwards rumble it up again with a line-out maul before the Highlanders charge forward with multiple pick and goes. Shannon Frizell gets his hands on the ball and powers over to score.

Josh Ioane converts his conversion from easy range and keeps his 100 per cent record for the match 3/3 with the boot so far.

TRY! Chris Feauai-Sautia steps off his right foot and beats his opposite Tevita Li. He goes in to score the Reds' first try of the match. The scores are level after Bryce Hegarty nails his conversion attempt.

INJURY! Highlanders centre Rob Thompson is escorted off the field after he was smashed in a big tackle by Reds' left winger Sefa Naivalu.

15 mins: HIGHLANDERS 10 REDS 3

THREE! Queenslands Reds' centre Jordan Petaia is penalised for an intentional knock down and Highlanders' first-five Josh Ioane fires his penalty kick through the uprights.

TRY! The Highlanders opt for a line-out after the Reds are penalised for an offside play. They rumble it up in the forwards before giving it to their backs, Josh Ioane throws a back-door pass to Ben Smith who runs a great line.

He passes the ball to Rob Thompson who sneaks through two Reds defenders before dotting down to score the first try of the match.
