FT: CHI 19-23 JAG

CHI TRY! There's a consolation on the full time hooter but what a result! Big call with the TMO denying Ngatai's try but this was a fantastic performance from the Jaguares and they end their four game away trip with a fourth win! There's plenty of hugs and plenty to talk about after this game. That'll do it from Rotorua but stay tuned for all the action in Melbourne between the Rebels and Crusaders.

76min: CHI 12-23 JAG

And that probably does it. McKenzie makes a great run. There's a quick recycle and they go left but it's knocked on! Jaguares scrum inside their 22m.

74min: CHI 12-23 JAG

Another chance! Jaguares are pinged for a forward pass so the Chiefs get a scrum 10 metres from the Jaguares line. Time is running out. They need to score here - fast.

73min: CHI 12-23 JAG

First try chance right here! Jaguares are penalised for offside after they recover their own knock on. McKenzie finds touch and it's a lineout 10m from the Jaguares try line but the throw isn't straight! That's the fourth throw the Chiefs have lost from their own lineout tonight.

71min: CHI 12-23 JAG

JAG THREE! Jaguares deny the try-penalty combo to take the lead after Messam is pinged for being offside. Nine minutes left, two tries. Hold on folks, things are about to get thrilling!

69min: CHI 12-20 JAG

Jaguares with a big chance to seal this after a head-high tackle leads to a penalty. They go to touch with it and they get a 5m lineout for their efforts. Can the Chiefs keep them out?

67min: CHI 12-20 JAG

McKenzie grubbers one through but its recovered by the Jaguares. They clear it and to make things worse for the Chiefs, they lose their lineout afterwards. Jaguares now with the ball on halfway.

64min: CHI 12-20 JAG

CHI NO TRY! Hold the phone folks, the TMO has interviened and ruled there was a knock on when the Chiefs recovered the banana kick! It's not clear in the replays but the TMO reckons he can see one. The Chiefs do get some reprieve though as they're awarded a penalty on the Jaguares 5m for offside. They choose to take a scrum with it. Big moment coming up. Even bigger call.

63min: CHI 17-20 JAG

CHI TRY! What a wild passage of play. Chiefs get into the Jaguares 22m with a fantastic kick by Pulu which is chased hard. Jaguares recover it but the clearance is a shocker and it bananas right and won't find touch. Chiefs recover it, get it back to the middle of the field and Ngatai cuts through 4 men from 30m out to score in the right corner! Brilliant. Pure brilliance.

60min: CHI 12-20 JAG

WHAT A SAVE FROM MCKENZIE! Boffelli breaks through the middle of the field on halfway and McKenzie chases him down for a tackle 5m out. He gets up, finds the ball, turns it over and gets it out the back for a clearance kick! The ball finds touch and the Chiefs are up to 15 men again! Big 10 minutes from the 13 fellas on the field and now they have Retallick on the field to help mount a comeback. Thrilling final 20 coming up folks.

59min: CHI 12-20 JAG

McKenzie goes for the cross kick and finds touch to kill time. Retallick is up and it looks like he will replace Allardice.

56min: CHI 12-20 JAG

Another big play for the Chiefs! They clear off the scrum and then earn a penalty! Jaguares try to run it again off the lineout but at the ensuing breakdown, they don't release! so it's a Chiefs penalty! McKenzie clears for touch and earns the Chiefs a lineout on the Jaguares' 10m.

54min: CHI 12-20 JAG

Finally something goes right for the Chiefs as the Jaguares attack off the kick off gets them all the way down to the Chiefs' 5m before they knock it on! Big scrum coming up for the Chiefs near their tryline. Lienert-Brown has been roped in to give it some man power with two forwards in the bin!

51min: CHI 12-20 JAG

CHI YELLOW! THAT'S TWO MEN IN THE BIN FOR THE CHIEFS! Jaguares look to drive off the lineout and Messam is penalised for killing the maul. It's a penalty try and the experienced flanker is sent to the bin! Massive moment for the Chiefs here as they're down to 13 now for nine minutes!

49min: CHI 12-13 JAG

CHI YELLOW!  Play is stopped as the TMO comes in to check foul play with a Jaguares player down in the back field. Allardice is in trouble here. There's an attempted charge down and Allardice has put his arm out to stop him. The Jaguares player comes down on his neck and replays show it's the Chiefs lock's fault. Big moment in the game and the Jaguares smell blood. They use the penalty to find touch and it's a 5m lineout.

46min: CHI 12-13 JAG

McKenzie tries to reply instantly after the Chiefs earn a penalty off the kick off but it's off the post! Jaguares clear but the Chiefs now have the ball inside the Jaguares half. But the whistle goes and the Chiefs are pinged for an illegal cleanout. Jaguares go for touch and it's a beauty of a kick. Jaguares now with a lineout on the Chiefs' 22m.

44min: CHI 12-13 JAG

JAG THREE! Jaguares take back the lead as the Chiefs are pinged for offside.

41min: CHI 12-10 JAG

Jaguares win the early kicking game as McKenzie can't bring in an up and under! Jaguares now with possession just inside the Chiefs half.

40min: CHI 12-10 JAG

And we're back underway in Rotorua as McKenzie goes deep with the kickoff!

HT: CHI 12-10 JAG

The scoreline is a fair reflection of the first half with a physical match playing out in Rotorua. The Chiefs' usual attacking flair has been subdued by the Jaguares' swarming defence so far and it's the scrum that has them in the game. On the other side, the Jaguares aren't forcing anything. Just taking the chances given to them and playing old-school, run it up the guts and spread it wide rugby. We're in for a thrilling second half. We'll be back shortly with all the action.

40min: CHI 12-10 JAG

CHI THREE! McKenzie gives the Chiefs the halftime lead but who would have thought it'd be thanks to four penalties! The Chiefs make a fantastic run down the left wing to get into the Jaguares half before earning a penalty for offside. McKenzie slots it with ease.

39min: CHI 9-10 JAG

CHI THREE! The scrum gets another penalty and McKenzie steps up in the middle of paddock to slot it over the black dot.

36min: CHI 6-10 JAG

Jaguares' clearance is poor and the Chiefs get a lineout 35m from the try-line. Attacking play off the top and McKenzie's short ball to Lienert-Brown is tipped by the rushing defence so there'll be a scrum in the middle of the field 30m out. Another good attacking chance here.

34min: CHI 6-10 JAG

Chiefs with an attacking chance after the Chiefs scrum earns another penalty! Another big drive and the front row collapses again. McKenzie's kick goes 50 odd metres and it's a lineout 15m from the Jaguares line. They try a trick play at the lineout but there's a forward pass. Jaguares scrum inside their 22m.

31min: CHI 6-10 JAG

Chiefs breathe a sigh of relief as a Jaguares linebreak off the scrum is brought back for a knock on. Jaguares are starting to play with some flair and it is finding holes in this defence. Much more effective than running at the Chiefs straight on with the forward pack.

30min: CHI 6-10 JAG

There's a stoppage in play as Jacobson stays down clutching his knee. Nothing dangerous in it - just an awkward collision. Retallick was warming up but he looks okay. That'll see play resume with a Jaguares scrum on halfway after there was a knock on in the collision.

26min: CHI 6-10 JAG

JAG TRY! The Chiefs finally look to open things up and it costs them big time! McKenzie gets through a small hole before he's brought down on halfway off the kickoff. Chiefs look to go wide but the skip pass goes off Ta'avao's chest and the Jaguares counter! They run all the way into the Chiefs' 22m before Ngatai makes the stop. Quickly recycled to the right wing and Boffelli is in. Try is converted and the Argentinians are in front.

23min: CHI 6-3 JAG

CHI THREE! McKenzie replies almost immediately with a three of his own after the Chiefs scrum earns a penalty. Good drive saw the Jaguares front row collapse and that gets the whistle.

21min: CHI 3-3 JAG

Chiefs with an attacking chance off the kick off as the Jaguares knock it on. Chiefs get a scrum on the left side of the field just inside the Jaguares 22m.

19min: CHI 3-3 JAG

JAG THREE! Boffelli finds his radar this time from behind halfway and the Jaguares level things! Chiefs were penalised for being offside and Boffelli makes up for his earlier miss with a HUGE boot. All tied after the first quarter.

17min: CHI 3-0 JAG

Jaguares can't break the defence again just inside halfway so they one into the corner for a 5m lineout to the Chiefs. Chiefs reply with a standard maul, go to ground and delivery to McKenzie in the pocket to clear. Jaguares lineout just inside the Chiefs half. This Chiefs defence has been superb so far but the Jaguares are being very one-dimensional - running it straight isn't working.

14min: CHI 3-0 JAG

Chiefs defence locks the Jaguares out for 16 phases on their own try line until a penalty is called for offside. The Jaguares opt for the three on offer just to the left of the uprights but it's off the posts! Chiefs get of jail free thanks to some stellar defence and a terrible shot at goal. 22m dropout coming up.

10min: CHI 3-0 JAG

Chiefs clear for touch off the kickoff but the Jaguares maul off the ensuing lineout earns them a penalty! Chiefs were offside at the maul so the Jaguares kick for touch looking to drive one in from the Chiefs' 5m.

8min: CHI 3-0 JAG

CHI THREE!  It's another penalty and the Chiefs opt for three this time. Jaguares come up with a game saving tackle as Ngatai cuts back off McKenzie's pass at a potential hole. The Argentinians don't get back in time though from the try-saving tackle and it leads to McKenzie taking the three on offer.

6min: CHI 0-0 JAG

Chiefs earn a penalty as the Jaguares are called for offside off the maul and they turn down the three for another lineout! Chiefs are hungry but the throw at lineout time is over the top. Jaguares try to recover, knock it on - Chiefs try to recover that and knock it on too! So it's a Chiefs scrum on the Jaguares 5m, left side of the field.

3min: CHI 0-0 JAG

What a kick from McKenzie. Ruck in the middle of the field just inside Jaguares' half and the Chiefs go right. McKenzie spots no one home behind the Jaguares line and chips it over the top for the corner. It sits up and the Jaguares are forced to take it into touch inside their 5m with the chasers coming in for a Chiefs attacking lineout. Brilliant game knowledge from McKenzie!

1min: CHI 0-0 JAG

And we're underway in Rotorua with the Jaguares getting things underway. Chiefs misread the kick and the Jaguares come up with it inside the Chiefs' 22m. First tackle and the Jaguares are pinged for not releasing. Early disaster quickly moved out of the way as McKenzie finds touch for a Chiefs lineout just inside their half.

7:30pm: TEAMS

Just to confirm, Jacobson is starting at No.6 for the Chiefs and Retallick has been called into the squad on the bench with Sam Cane ruled out from an abdominal strain. That has shifted Messam to No.7.

7:25pm: CONDITIONS

We're getting close to kickoff. Clear sky in Rotorua tonight but it looks like there is a bit of moisture on the turf. Teams are heading back to the sheds.

7:00pm: PREVIEW

The Chiefs may enter tonight's game as favourites but they'll be well aware of the impressive run their Argentinian foes have been on of late.

The Jaguares deprated Buenos Aires nearly four weeks ago for a gruelling road trip but have so far gone undefeated with away wins against the Rebels, Brumbies and Blues in that time.

What's more, last week's win over the Blues was their first ever win over a New Zealand opponent since joining the competition in 2016.

Those results, and particularly last week's conquering of Eden Park, will give the team plenty of confidence as they now turn their attention to the NZ conference's fourth-placed team.

But the Chiefs are a different beast and are yet to lose at home this season - add in the fact that they've won 20 of their last 22 games against teams from outside of NZ and the Waikato franchise starts to earn their 'favourites' tag.

Coach Colin Cooper has made four changes to his starting XV for tonight's fixture, with Michael Allardice earning a starting spot from Brodie Retallick who has been rested.

Elsewhere, Liam Messam earns the No.8 jersey while in the backline Toni Pulu comes back from injury on the wing and Alex Nankivell joins him at inside centre.
