'It leaves a sour taste' - All Blacks out for revenge against Wallabies, says Rieko Ioane

August 17, 2018

Australia came away winners in Brisbane the last time the two sides faced one another.

When the All Blacks take the field against the Wallabies in Sydney tomorrow night, one thing will be driving them forward in the hunt for victory in the Bledisloe Cup opener - revenge.

The last time the two sides played, in Brisbane late last year, Australia came away winners 23-18, with the All Blacks now looking to re-assert their dominance over their trans-Tasman foes.

Speaking to 1 NEWS at a promotional event in Sydney this afternoon, winger Rieko Ioane said that the side are wanting to make sure that the Wallabies' winning streak against the All Blacks doesn't extend past one.

"Obviously it leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth," he said.

"(We're) looking to do a bit better this time around, but we'll see how it goes.

However, while Ioane and the All Blacks won't look back fondly on their time in Brisbane, they can at least draw some inspiration from last year's clash at ANZ Stadium, seeing New Zealand walk away with a thumping 54-34 win.

Ioane though, isn't getting carried away by his past success.

"To be fair, it's probably irrelevant what's happened in Sydney the past few games."

"I do love playing here, and I'm definitely looking forward to playing here tomorrow, so hopefully it all goes good."
