Australian Super Rugby sides won't be forced to endure another 40-match losing streak against Kiwi opposition, according to Waratahs forward Ned Hanigan.
In a winless run that spanned over three separate seasons, Australian teams were on the losing side in 40 consecutive matches against New Zealand opposition. It ended when the Waratahs managed a 40-12 victory over a 14-man Highlanders side in Sydney.
However, with Australian Super Rugby sides now consolidated from five teams to four, Hanigan is confident that Kiwi sides won't be as dominant as they once were in trans-Tasman affairs.
"If you worry too much about what happened in the past you're worrying about the wrong stuff. You go into what you can control and let the results take care of themselves," Hanigan told the Sydney Morning Herald.
"I hope, as everyone does in Australian rugby, that that doesn't happen again. We're going to do everything to make sure it doesn't."
Hanigan and the Waratahs will be the first Australian side facing off against Kiwi opposition in the 2019 Super Rugby season, opening their campaign against the Hurricanes in Sydney on Saturday.
