Despite having been deployed as a winger in the Hurricanes' most recent Super Rugby clashes, Jordie Barrett is still a fullback - according to coach John Plumtree.
Having finished 2018 on the right wing for the All Blacks, Barrett has again been seen in the number 14 jersey this season, despite his preferred position being fullback.
With injuries to the likes of Vince Aso, and with the outstanding form of rookie Chase Tiatia, Barrett will again find himself on the wing for this week's clash with the Chiefs in Hamilton, although coach Plumtree is adamant that the switch isn't permanent.
"I'm happy with the way things are going there, so I want to roll that again," he began.
"But obviously Jordie's still in my mind a fullback as well, it's just what now is working for us."
However, Plumtree also says that with the Hurricanes' ongoing fitness woes in the backs, Barrett could be used as a winger for as long as necessary.
"It's still a baby I guess for what of a better term, as to whether he likes it or whether it suits us as a team, but again I still like Jordie Barrett playing at fullback.
"It's good that with Vinny getting injured again now, that Jordie's experienced it out there on the wing, and we've got Blam [Ben Lam] and Wes obviously.
"Wes might have to play some time in the midfield. We've got Billy Proctor coming back from injury, we've got Peter Umaga-Jensen back as well.
"So they'll provide some good cover, and play as well. Obviously I will have to rest up Ngani. It'll be good once we get those two guys back, but we've got a couple of players who can play in different positions."
