'It's still sinking in' – Chiefs enforcer Luke Jacobson blown away by first All Blacks call-up

July 3, 2019

Jacobson was one of four new players named by Steve Hansen in the Rugby Championship squad.

Chiefs flanker Luke Jacobson is still coming to terms with his naming in last night's 41-man All Blacks squad, awarded his first international call-up by Steve Hansen.

After a brilliant season for the Chiefs, Jacobson is one of four new faces in the All Blacks' squad for the first two Rugby Championship Tests against Argentina and South Africa, fronting media for the first time this afternoon.

"Very exciting times," Jacobson told 1 NEWS.

"[I'm] still buzzing, it's still sinking in. It's a pretty good feeling."

While new All Blacks traditionally receive a phone call from coach Steve Hansen, or selector Grant Fox, this time around players were instead left waiting and watching the televised announcement, with Jacobson being no different.

"[I] found out just at the announcement like everyone else. Sitting there with my brother and my mate, not really expecting to get read out.

"I'd been given an email that I was in contention, in a wider sort of setup, but I hadn't been told anything.

"It was a pretty awesome feeling to hear my name had been read out."
