'It's a real honour' – Humble Kieran Read still relishing All Blacks captaincy

November 18, 2017

It's been nearly two years since Read took the All Blacks reigns from Richie McCaw.

Nearly two years after being handed the All Blacks captaincy by predecessor Richie McCaw, Kieran Read is still relishing his role in charge of the world champions.

Read, 32, took over as captain following the international retirements of Richie McCaw and Dan Carter, leading the All Blacks to consecutive Rugby Championship titles as well as a drawn series with the British and Irish Lions earlier this year.

Speaking at today's media conference ahead of the All Blacks' Test against Scotland at Murrayfield tomorrow, Read said he was loving his role as captain.

"It's a real honour to be leading this team," he said.

"I love trying to do my best for the boys."

"It's always a challenge, which is what you want to keep driving the boys and get the best out of them."
