'It's a factor for both teams' – All Blacks unfazed by altitude in Springboks showdown

October 6, 2018

The All Blacks face their arch-rivals in Pretoria tomorrow morning.

Altitude won't be a factor when the All Blacks meet the Springboks in Pretoria tomorrow morning, with captain Kieran Read confident have acclimatised to the conditions.

With Pretoria sitting 1,339 metres above sea level, many travelling sides struggle to adapt to the conditions, with the oxygen content in the air lower than it would be lower down.

However, with many Kiwi sides having to play Super Rugby at altitude, skipper Read says that it's not as big of a hurdle as it once was for his side.

"It's a factor, but it's a factor for both teams," he said.

"We've acclimatised this week, and when you get out there on the field, essentially you just have to push yourself through it.

"It's more a mental game than a physical game.

"It doesn't mean you can't perform at your level, it just makes it more mentally challenging."
