Israel Folau to fight to keep rugby career alive, seeks hearing over anti-gay social media posts

Wallabies and Waratahs star Israel Folau has today responded to Rugby Australia's breach notice, requesting a code of conduct hearing.

It appears Folau will be fighting to keep his rugby career alive after his controversial social media posts last week.

The 30-year-old is in hot water after he posted on social media that homosexuals were among a group condemned to hell unless they repent for their sins, Rugby Australia was quick to act, saying they intended to fire Folau.

Rugby Australia's CEO Raelene Castle said they will be working with the Rugby Union Players’ Association to bring together a code of conduct hearing.

"Israel has responded formally today to request a code of conduct hearing which, under the circumstances, was not an unexpected outcome," said Castle in a statement.

"We will now work to confirm a date for the hearing as soon as possible.
