'I'm not here to sit back and watch' - Blues first-five eighth Bryn Gatland relishing start

February 26, 2018

The 22-year-old had an outstanding game against the Highlanders, scoring a try in his side's 41-34 loss.

Blues' young first-five eighth Bryn Gatland is relishing his chance in the No.10 jersey after his impressive start against the Highlanders last Friday.

Gatland, 22, showed off his attacking flair in his team's 41-34 loss to the Highlanders last Friday, not afraid to take on the defence.

He scored a brilliant try in the first spell and had a commanding presence on the field, not to mention kept his side in the match with his solid kicking game.

Gatland has been given the nod to wear the No. 10 jumper for the Blues due to injuries to Stephen Perofeta and Otere Black.

"It's where I want to be so I'm not here to sit back and watch," said Gatland.

"Obviously I want to be pushing forward and I want to be the ten here but in saying that there are some good quality players around as well and there are a couple of guys injured.

"There is some good competition here so that will be good for me as well."

Gatland hopes to guide the Auckland Super Rugby franchise to the finals 2018.

"I want to keep progressing forward and getting this team where they want to be in the end – the finals."

The Blues host the Chiefs on Friday at Eden Park in Auckland.
