'I'm getting there' – Dane Coles taking things slowly on All Blacks return

November 13, 2018

The hooker has returned to Test rugby after an injury ravaged year.

All Blacks hooker Dane Coles is taking things slow and steady after his return to the black jersey, following nearly a year on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Coles, 31, hadn't played since last November's injury suffered against France, but was a part of the All Blacks squad during this year's Rugby Championship, eventually making his return against Japan last month.

Since then, he's featured for the All Blacks off the bench, seeing out the 16-15 win over England at Twickenham last weekend.

Speaking to media in Dublin ahead of the All Blacks' clash with Ireland this weekend, though, Coles said his return was still a work in progress.

"I feel like I'm getting there," he began.

"Each week I'm getting more - I suppose - confident in my roles.

"[I'm] enjoying just being on the field. I was so happy to be back and playing at Twickenham for the All Blacks. I feel like I'm getting there."
