'I'll have a crack at it' – Scott Robertson keeping eye on All Blacks job with new contract

February 18, 2019

Robertson is considered among the front runners to replace Steve Hansen.

Crusaders coach Scott Robertson says he's still got one eye on the soon-to-be vacant All Blacks job, having re-signed with New Zealand Rugby.

Robertson, 44, today announced he's re-committed through to 2021, staying in New Zealand for the foreseeable future.

However, with speculation placing him alongside Ian Foster near the front of the queue to replace the outgoing Steve Hansen after this year's World Cup, Robertson says he's always open to taking the All Blacks job - if and when it becomes available.

"If the job's available in the right time for me at the end of the year, I'll have a crack at it," he said.

"You consider that job when it comes up, it doesn't come around often."

Robertson also denied that the All Blacks' carrot wasn't dangled as a part of his negotiations with New Zealand Rugby.

"There was no chat around that, as such."
