Hurricanes' John Plumtree could replace Steve Hansen, says Beauden Barrett: 'I wouldn't write him out'

January 7, 2019

The former assistant, now coach of the Hurricanes could be a dark horse for the All Blacks job.

Incoming Hurricanes coach John Plumtree could be the man to replace All Blacks boss Steve Hansen after this year's Rugby World Cup in Japan, according to star player Beauden Barrett.

Taking over from Chris Boyd this season, Plumtree will find himself in his first role as a head coach of a New Zealand Super Rugby team when the tournament begins, with Barrett tipping him for an outside chance at greater honours.

"He's certainly got the potential," Barrett began.

"He's a great coach from the number of years I've had with him.

"I certainly wouldn't write him out."

No word has been given from New Zealand Rugby as to who will replace Hansen, with names such as assistant coach Ian Foster and Crusaders boss Scott Robertson among the favourites.
