Hurricanes assistant coach says potential South African Super Rugby exodus would 'be a shame'

May 7, 2018

A report out of Europe claims South Africa will leave Super Rugby for the Pro14.

The reported South African Super Rugby exodus would be terrible for the game in the Southern Hemisphere, according to Hurricanes assistant Jason Holland.

In a report out this morning , WalesOnline claim that the Stormers, Sharks and Lions will follow the Cheetahs and Kings - the two culled sides from last season - and trade Super Rugby for the European Pro14 competition, with the move to take place for the 2019-20 season.

Speaking at Hurricanes training today, Holland said he was hopeful that the South African sides would remain part of the competition.

"I suppose from my opinion, it'd be a shame to not have the South African teams playing with us," he said.

"They add a different challenge every week.

"We still want to play against them."
